EDT vs EDP vs Parfum - Why Zamani Only Makes Parfum
If you have ever wondered why some fragrances fade by midday and others still linger on your clothes the next morning, the answer usually comes down to concentration. Here is what the different categories actually mean and why we made the decision to only produce Parfum.
What do EDT, EDP and Parfum actually mean?
Every fragrance is a blend of aromatic compounds and a carrier, usually alcohol. The difference between Eau de Toilette, Eau de Parfum and Parfum comes down to how much of that blend is fragrance oil versus alcohol. The higher the concentration, the stronger and longer-lasting the scent.
| Type | Concentration | Typical longevity | Character |
|---|---|---|---|
| Eau de Toilette (EDT) | 5 to 15% | 2 to 4 hours | Light, fresh, fades quickly |
| Eau de Parfum (EDP) | 15 to 20% | 4 to 6 hours | Balanced, moderate projection |
| Parfum | 20 to 30%+ | 8 to 12+ hours | Rich, deep, full development |
Why EDT and EDP fall short
Eau de Toilette was designed for lightness and frequency. Reapply throughout the day, refresh often. That works for certain styles of fragrance. But it means the scent never fully develops. Top notes dominate, heart and base notes barely register before the whole thing fades. You are getting a fraction of what the fragrance was designed to be.
EDP is better, but still a compromise. Higher concentration than EDT, but for complex fragrances with layered dry-downs like sandalwood, amber and incense, the development is still cut short. You smell the opening. The rest of the story gets lost.
Why Parfum is the only format that makes sense for Zamani
Both Sukoon and Rayn were built around their full arc. Sukoon opens with bergamot and saffron, settles into rose and jasmine, and dries down to musk, amberwood and sandalwood. Rayn goes from grapefruit and mint into ginger and vanilla, finishing on incense, amber and patchouli. That development takes time and concentration. At EDT or EDP levels, the base notes that define both fragrances would never properly surface.
Parfum concentration means one to two sprays is enough. The projection is quieter, more intimate, but the scent stays present throughout the day without needing to reapply. It also means the fragrance evolves on your skin rather than evaporating from it, which is exactly how both scents were intended to be worn.
Parfum is not a premium tier. It is the format that lets a fragrance do what it was designed to do.
What this means when you buy Zamani
A 100ml Parfum at £80 will last significantly longer than a 100ml EDT at a similar price point, because you use less per application and the scent stays with you longer. It is not a more expensive product. It is a more efficient one. The Signature Set gives you 2 x 10ml atomisers of both Sukoon and Rayn so you can experience the full dry-down before committing to the full bottle.
